Man from Colorado Springs killed in Portland bicycling accident
A bicyclist who died in a crash with a tow truck in Oregon was reportedly from Colorado.
Mark Angeles, 22, was originally from Colorado Springs and moved to Portland to attend Reed College.
He graduated last week and majored in chemistry.
Friends left flowers and even a letter for him at Pine Creek High School, where he graduated in 2011.
Friends he grew up with said they are devastated.
“He was very kind and very, very passionate about what he does. He was one of the nicest people I ever met,” said a neighbor Sierra Campbell.
The accident that took his life happened Wednesday.
Portland police said the driver of the tow truck was not impaired at the time of the accident and that he has not been cited.
Another next-door neighbor said she watched Angeles grow up and considered him a role model.
“He honored his mother and father, and I think that really reflected in how he lived,” Donna Fitzpatrick said. “He didn’t want to do anything that would dishonor them and I don’t think he did.”
The investigation is ongoing, according to police.
