Officer wounded, suspect killed in drug raid in Northglenn

Authorities say a police officer was shot twice and a suspect was killed during a gunfight in a quiet neighborhood in suburban Denver.

Cmdr. Ron Haralson, a spokesman for the Northglenn Police Department, tells The Denver Post a narcotics warrant was being served at a home Thursday morning when the suspect opened fire, prompting officers to fire back.

Sara Farris, a spokeswoman for North Metro Fire Rescue, says the injured officer is hospitalized in stable condition.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, was one of six adults in the home. Three children also were there at the time of the raid.

Haralson declined to comment about the nature of the narcotics search, which was conducted by a SWAT team comprised of Thornton and Northglenn police officers.
