Driver in crash that killed young pedestrian sentenced

A woman who crashed onto a Colorado Springs sidewalk, killing a little boy and seriously injuring his father, learned her fate Tuesday.

Xyrjah Goldston was sentenced to four years in Community Corrections on May 26, 2015.

On March 6, 2015, Goldston pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and assault in the July 8, 2014 crash that killed Ishaq Hameed, 5. Ishaq’s father, Raphael Hameed lost his right leg as a result of the crash.

The father and son were walking on the sidewalk on Murray Blvd between Platte Ave and Bijou St. when Goldston lost control of her car and crashed into them.

Police said Goldston, who was 21 at the time, was driving more than 50 mph in the 35 mph zone.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 spoke with Ishaq’s parents after the sentencing. Raphael and Heidi Hameed said they were happy Goldston would avoid jail time.

“She’ll have a better chance to do something in the community and raise her child. That in itself honors my child,” Raphael Hameed said. “I react from the point of love and understanding because I’m a parent, she’s a parent. She has a beautiful child, I had a beautiful child. An ugly thing happened. Let’s make something beautiful out of it.”

“She’s being punished, but she’s not being condemned for the rest of her life. She’s already living with the knowledge that she killed somebody,” Heidi Hameed said. “We forgive Xyrjah. That’s mercy. Grace comes after mercy.”
