Road Closed in Manitou Springs Because of Rock Slide

The exit into Manitou Springs, off of Highway 24 has been closed due to a rock slide. This is the U.S. 24 Business exit (Manitou Avenue).

Official Release from CDOT:

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has again closed eastbound U.S. 24 Business (Manitou Avenue) from mainline Highway 24 to the roundabout at Serpentine Drive after rock fall onto the eastbound lane this morning.

This mile segment of eastbound and westbound Highway 24 Business was closed last Thursday after cracks had formed in the westbound lane of the roadway. CDOT reopened the eastbound lane from mainline U.S. 24 on Friday afternoon after that section of the roadway was deemed safe for travel.

Serpentine Drive also remains closed between U.S. 24 Business and mainline Highway 24 since it parallels the business route and a retaining wall between the two roadways also is showing signs of cracking.

CDOT engineers will be on-site tomorrow to determine what steps will be required before the highway can be reopened and is safe for travel.

Mainline U.S. 24 is not impacted by this closure with the exception of the exit ramp from eastbound Highway 24 to Business U.S. 24. Other access points from mainline Highway 24 remain open into and out of Manitou Springs.

This segment of U.S. 24 Business is a low-use roadway, with an average daily traffic count of 1,500 vehicles.
