Gov. Hickenlooper Honors Fallen Soldiers on Memorial Day

Gov. John Hickenlooper is among those honoring service members who died serving their country in the annual Memorial Day ceremony at Fort Logan National Cemetery.

Hickenlooper spoke Monday about his father, who was rejected for enlistment several times during World War II because of a bad back and partial blindness. He worked as an engineer and refused to take days off as long as his brothers were serving abroad in the military.

Lori A. Amos, chief operating officer for purchased care for the Veterans Health Administration in Denver, is also scheduled to speak at the 214-acre site in Denver.

It has been a national cemetery since 1950. Three Medal of Honor recipients are among the veterans buried there.
