Rock climbing banned in Springs city parks this weekend

The City of Colorado Springs says several popular rock climbing spots will be off limits to climbers this weekend.

A temporary ban on rock climbing has been put in place in Garden of the Gods, North Cheyenne Caon and Red Rock Canyon Open Space. The ban will be in effect through at least Memorial Day.

The city says recent rains have saturated the sandstone rock formations, making them too fragile to safely climb.

Red Rock Canyon Open Space remains closed in its entirety because of flood damage.

The following trails in the city are also closed this weekend because of flood damage:

The Midland Trail between 26th Street and Ridge Road
Foot Hills Trail within Garden of the Gods between Gateway Road and the Navigators. Pikes Peak Greenway Trail between Nevada Avenue and El Pomar Youth Sports Park.
