Colorado theater shooting jurors see graphic autopsy photos

Jurors in the Colorado theater shooting case are seeing autopsy photos of some of the 12 people who were killed in the attack.

Prosecutors called Arapahoe County Coroner Kelly Lear-Kaul on Thursday as the fourth week of the James Holmes’ death penalty trial came to a close. She examined the bodies of six people, including that of 6-year-old Veronica Moser-Sullivan.

Lear-Kaul says the girl was shot four times. Over defense objections, the judge allowed Lear-Kaul to use a mannequin to show where the bullets struck the victims and the damage the bullets caused.

The testimony capped a week in which investigators also described the trajectories of gunshots through the theater, and more survivors described escaping the gunfire. Court is in recess Friday.

Holmes has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. His trial could last five months.
