Man sentenced to prison for choking woman unconscious, pouring boiling water on her

A civilian who lived on Fort Carson has been sentenced in a domestic violence case.

Mitchell Gibson, 30, was ordered to serve 45 years in prison.

The Department of Justice says Gibson was arrested in March 2014 after whipping a woman with a coaxial cable, choking her until she blacked out and then pouring boiling hot water on her to wake her up.

The woman suffered numerous injuries, including second degree burns to her stomach, groin, right arm and right leg, according to the DOJ.

The DOJ says the victim was nine months pregnant at the time and that Gibson threatened to kill her, the baby and then himself.

“Defendant Gibson assaulted his victim in a series of senseless, sadistic attacks that earned him every minute of the stern sentence imposed,” said U.S. Attorney John Walsh. “We hope that his victim – and the larger community — can now rest easy, knowing that her tormentor will spend decades isolated from society,” Walsh said.

The case was investigated by Fort Carson Police and the FBI.
