Mitchell High School students “shake off” negativity

Students in the Performing Arts Department at Mitchell High School took their final project outside the classroom and in front of a camera, recording a video of students showcasing their talents.

The students choreographed a routine to the song “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift. Members of the band, choir, orchestra, theater and dance departments took part.

Students told KRDO NewsChannel 13 they hoped the video would help bring awareness to their performing arts program and to help them combat a negative perception.

“We’re constantly told, ‘You’re the ghetto school,'” said Brandon Foster. “But no, that’s not who we are.”

“When people think of Mitchell, they think, ‘Oh, that’s not a good school,’ but once you open it up and see what kind of family we are and how supportive we are of each other, it really shows who we are,” said Victoria Clarke.

The video was posted on YouTube on Saturday and has been viewed more than 2,000 times.
