Nepal earthquake relief effort gets local business donation

A restaurant owned and staffed by natives of Nepal got assistance from its customers to raise money for earthquake victims Sunday.

Little Nepal on South Eighth Street donated its entire day’s sales to victims of the recent earthquake in their home country.

Owner Raj Adhikari said his Indian cuisine normally brings in $4,000 on a Sunday but he hoped promoting the benefit would double that.

“It’s not what do you have going on in your personal life,” he said. “It’s what can you do for the earthquake relief people who are victimized.”

Many customers said they were unaware of the benefit, but were happy that their money was helping people in need.

Adhikari described his cuisine as being similar to Nepalese food but slightly spicier.

The local Nepalese community has already given $67,000 to the relief effort, Adhikari said.
