Caon City Police Using More Non-Lethal Weapons

Canon City police have purchased shotguns that are less lethal to subdue people who are out of control without killing them.

The shotguns were bought six months ago and use bean bags.

Police Lt. Lt. Billy Ray says there have been three people killed by police since December where the use of non-lethal force was not possible.

According to the Canon City Daily Record, police are trying to dispel the impression that some people have that police are too quick to use lethal force.

Police cited a recent case in which a man throwing knives at police was subdued without the use of lethal force.
