Airborne Fire Fighting

In partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the 302nd Airlift Wing, the Air Force Reserve will take to the skies this weekend for its Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System (MAFFS) training.

The annual training includes classroom and flight certification for civilian flight crews and various support personnel that include the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Tanker Base, Pueblo Tanker Base and the Pueblo Interagency Dispatch.

During the training and re-certification, air crews will drop water on remote target sites in the Pike-San Isabel National Forest, Bureau of Land Management land and military ranges.

MAFFS-equipped C-130s are ready when requests for assistance are made by the Forest Service or the National Interagency Fire Center.
