Health department warning people about West Nile virus
As the temperature heats up, the Pueblo City-County Health Department wants to make people aware of mosquito bites.
Last year, the department saw its most cases of West Nile virus since 2007.
It said this time of the year, mosquitoes go from feeding on nectar to blood. They also like this time of the year because they can lay eggs in stagnant water and it’s warm.
Tim Sena, who lives in Pueblo, said he has his own remedy on how to keep mosquitoes away.
“I like to use mouth wash in a spray bottle. I found it works better than any other home remedy I have used. I feel it’s really important to keep yourself safe from mosquitoes and other insects,” he said.
The health department recommends that you use DEET, wear long sleeve-shirts and pants along with draining any standing water.
The department said the mosquito season usually ends by early October.
