Police: Man arrested after wrapping mother up in vacuum cord, threatening to kill her

A Colorado Springs man is accused of Intimidating a Witness and False Imprisonment after police say he wrapped his mom up with a vacuum cord and threatened to kill her and his sister.

It happened Tuesday afternoon in the 3300 block of Soaring Bird Circle.

Police say the mother is a witness to a Harassment and Third-Degree Assault case between the suspect and his sister. The suspect, Matthew McBride, wanted his 84-year-old mother to fill out a statement before going to court, but her statement was not to his satisfaction. McBride then filled out a statement himself and wanted his mother to sign it. The mother refused, because she did not witness some of the incidents in the statement. According to police, that’s when McBride wrapped his mother up and threatened to kill her. Police say he told her he would not let her go, unless she signed the statement.

The mother pushed her Life Alert button to get help. When the fire department arrived, firefighters saw her through the window crying and trying to get their attention.

When McBride finally opened the door, police say he ran away.

He was arrested shortly after at Rampart Park.
