New Policy For Flooding In Manitou

Manitou Avenue will no longer close just because of a flash flood warning.

Following recent revisions by the Colorado Department of Transportation regarding the closure policy of Highway 24, Manitou Springs police also decided to revise their closure plan.

Previously police would close Manitou Avenue every time the National Weather Service would issue a flash flood warning for the area. Under the new policy the closure decision will be left up to Manitou Springs police.

The road will remain open to traffic unless the incident commander determines that there is a significant threat and flash flooding is imminent.

If there’s a flash flood warning and Highway 24 is not closed, Canon Avenue will be closed from Manitou Avenue West and Lover’s Lane will be closed.

If there’s a significant threat or flash flooding Manitou Avenue will be closed from Oak Place West.

If there’s a warning and Highway 24 is closed Manitou Avenue will be closed from Oak Place West. Canon Avenue will be closed from Manitou Avenue west and Lover’s Lane will also be closed.
