400 volunteers fix up American Legion
A sea of orange took over things in Fountain on Wednesday.
Four hundred volunteers got their hands dirty to give American Legion 38 a much-needed makeover. The post commander says what he saw was a miracle.
“A very warm feeling to see all these people here caring, caring and giving back to vets, because that’s what it’s about for us,” said Mike Hall, post commander.
Crews from Home Depot, and Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity built a community garden, fences, a family space and picnic tables.
It was massive production with dozens of projects all happening at the same time.
“This is like a godsend for us. This would have taken us 10 years to do this on our own. It’s just out of this world. All we can do is say thank you,” said Hall.
But volunteers said helping out is their small way of thanking veterans who’ve put their lives on the line.
American Legion Post 38 was chartered in 1960, serving more than 100 veterans and their families every year.
