Murder/suicide suspected in deaths of Colorado Springs couple
Colorado Springs Police say two bodies were found in a burning house in the 300 block of Redwood Drive Monday.
The pair has been identified as spouses Leah Cabrera, 33, and Joshua Cabrera, 35.
Police say Leah Cabrera’s death has been ruled a homicide and Joshua Cabrera’s death has been ruled a suicide.
Police say that Joshua Cabrera killed his wife and then himself. They say that he used an accelerant to set the home on fire.
Police say officers responded to a reported shooting at the house at 1:33 p.m. on May 11, 2015. When they arrived, they found the home on fire. Inside, they found Leah Cabrera’s body.
Officers said they left the house because of the fire and heavy smoke and that when firefighters arrived to put out the fire, they found Joshua Cabrera’s body.
Police say an eight year old and a 15-year-old also lived in the house, but that they were not home when the murder/suicide happened.
This is the 5th homicide investigated by the Colorado Springs Police Department in 2015. At this time last year there had been 10 homicides.
