Greeley toddler in critical after alleged child abuse

Police in Greeley say a 2-year-old boy is in critical condition after allegedly being abused by his mother’s boyfriend.

Police were called to the boy’s home Monday afternoon after paramedics responded and reported he wasn’t responsive and wasn’t breathing. He was eventually flown to Children’s Hospital.

Police say 33-year-old John Melvin White had recently moved into the home and was watching the boy at the time. He is being held in jail on suspicion of child abuse but police didn’t give any details about how he allegedly hurt the boy. He will appear in court later in the day.

A neighbor told KUSA-TV that a man came to her door Monday carrying an unresponsive child, asking if she knew CPR. She said she began to perform CPR.
