Severe weather creates more potholes
this is becoming more common on streets throughout southern colorado. and potholes are causing big problems for drivers. It’s like driving an obstacle course. Back and forth back and forth. You have to keep your eyes open. the colorado springs street division says it’s likely to get worse before it gets better. just the sheer volume of water we received i think has been a major, major impact to our infrastructure. because of the severe weather crews now have to to alter their pothole plan. we’ve been in a fill operation as opposed to a repair operation, we know that that’s a Band-Aid but we also know that filling pot holes isn’t the way to fix the roads. Paving and resurfacing is the way to fix the roads. fixing all of the problem areas won’t come easy. if the deterioration of our roadways were to stop today, theoretically stop today, at our current funding levels it’s going to take us 67.9 years to get where we need to be. but drivers are still hoping for a smoother ride. there’s a lot of pot holes and there’s a lot of road and just a few people to take care of the job and those guys, they work pretty hard to take care of the roads. the city streets division had 430 potholes on its list to fix last week. planners don’t have an estimate on what that number is today… but they know the list is much longer. live in colorado springs, zach pagano, krdo newschannel 13. a much needed break from the wild
