Security measures increase at installations nationwide

Security measures are increasing at military installations across North America.

This comes in the wake of an order Thursday by U.S. Northern Command.

Air Force MSgt. Chuck Marsh tells KRDO NewsChannel 13 that there is “no specific threat” causing the Force Protection Condition to rise from Alpha to Bravo.

He added that this should act as a reminder to all military personnel to “stay on their toes” and be vigilant to ensure the safety of everyone.

The Air Force Academy is closed to all non-DoD ID card holders until further notice. The Academy says visitors may be escorted onto base by a DoD ID card holder and that visitor access for official events will be permitted on a case-by-case basis.

Peterson Air Force Base and Fort Carson have also announced increased security measures.

The 2015 Armed Forces Day community run scheduled for May 9 at Peterson has been cancelled due to the increased force protection measures.

MSgt. Marsh said the last time the FPCON was raised was back in 2011 in preparation for the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
