Man involved in shootout with police sentenced to 736 years
A 43-year-old man convicted for a shootout with police and sheriff’s deputies during a standoff in Castle Rock has been sentenced to 736 years.
Lonnie James Pebley was convicted of 15 counts of attempted first-degree murder and 12 counts of first-degree assault for threatening a peace officer with a weapon during the 2012 standoff.
Prosecutors say he tried to shoot 27 officers and deputies with an AK-47 and handgun during a 30-minute standoff.
Authorities say Pebley fled on foot in the dark. Authorities spent seven hours searching for him before he was arrested.
No officers were hurt and they only fired two shots in response.
