Wild weather strikes southern Colorado again

Wild weather struck southern Colorado again Wednesday afternoon.

Storms took out everything from hail, to street flooding, even lightning which took out a chainsaw.

Neighbors in 7500 block of Waterman Way in Colorado Springs say the strike was loud and bright.

“Have you ever heard small artillery fire? It’s loud, rumbling, it freaks you out for a second,” said Liz Baty. “Multiply that by five.”

As scary as it sounds, the only victims were a few shingles and a chainsaw.

The lightning bolt struck through Bob Rodgers’ back shed.

“I was sitting on my couch watching TV. Channel 13 weather,” Rodgers said. “Heard a bang and saw a flash.”

After he first noticed it, he checked his house and didn’t see anything so he didn’t worry.

Then, the fire department came after a neighbor called 911. They looked in the shed and found a small fire.

Rodgers counts himself lucky.

“Insurance will take over it, quite lucky I think,” he said.

From fires to floods, neighborhoods in Pueblo filled with water almost immediately.

And in Security-Widefield, a car got stuck in water near Sam Boatman’s home.

“It builds up pretty fast, it takes a while to wash it down the street,” said Boatman.

He says he’s seen it before.

“I wish they would put more drainage ditches in to make it better,” he said.
