Black Hills Energy Plans Power Outage in Cripple Creek to Make Repairs

Black Hills Energy will be shutting the power off in Cripple Creek on Tuesday, May 5th, from 3:00 am to 4:30 am.

The company needs to make a repair following a mechanical failure last weekend.

About 600 customers, including several casinos were impacted by the nearly 12-hour long outage.

Black Hills says the planned outage on Tuesday will impact almost all of Cripple Creek.

The company also says they spoke with the casinos to judge the best time for the planned outage, and settled on the Tuesday, 3:00 am start time. They are also hopeful the repair won’t take the entire hour and a half.

Previous Story:

Black Hills Energy has restored power to the Cripple Creek area following a wide-spread outage that began Saturday (04/25/15) night.

The company says a mechanical failure in a sub-station transformer caused the outage around 9:30 pm.

The outage impacted just over 600 customers, including casinos in the area.

At least one casino had to close it’s doors, however others had back-up generators and were able to stay open.

A replacement part had to be brought in from Pueblo, which took several hours.

Power was restored around 8:45 Sunday morning.

Repairs are being made to the original transformer that failed.
