Dozens of trees vandalized at Red Rock Canyon Open Space
springs police are trying to find out who is cutting down trees in red rock canyon open space. the city’s regional parks department says at least 30 trees have been cut down inside the park. the latest was a 20-foot ponderosa pine discovered by a park ranger yesterday. new at noon… krdo newschannel 13’s zach pagano is finding out how hikers want to help catch a suspect. i can’t believe that we have such a jewel that is right here in the midst of our community, and it belongs to us. inside red rock canyon open space i hike all around here, do the whole loop. there’s nearly 800 acres of trails and scenery. There’ s miles and miles of hiking. i can come out here three or four hours a day and i find new trails all the time. but there are fewer trees here than there were just six months ago. the trails and open space coalition says someone has cut down 30 trees inside the parkand they need your help finding the vandal. i can’t believe why anybody would want to come around just to chop a tree down. That doesn’t make any sense. hikers say they’ll be more aware when the they’re inside the park. i hope they catch them, whoever is doing this.
