Nonprofit group says more homeless people coming to Pueblo for retail pot
Selling recreational marijuana could be legal in the city of Pueblo and a nonprofit group is asking for help to accommodate the amount of people coming in for retail pot who are homeless.
POSADA said it has helped more than 3,000 homeless people this year, that’s up more than 1,000 from this point last year.
The group said 300 of the 3,000 came to Pueblo because of retail pot.
The group said it wants help, not only from local and state governments, but also from the pot shops.
“We don’t anticipate the numbers to go down. We truly believe that the numbers are going to continue to increase and to put a bigger strain on the community and the nonprofit agencies,” Community Relations Coordinator Christina Trujillo said.
Pueblo City Council is expected to vote on a retail pot ordinance on May 11.
