Family brings in pet alpaca to cheer up terminally ill family member

A Pueblo man with a terminal illness had a visit from his furry four-legged friend Thursday.

Al Schade, 79, has terminal skin cancer. His family brought in his 2-year-old alpaca ,Dioge, to the care center he is staying in to brighten up his day.

Chris Schade, Al’s son, said he wanted to cheer his dad up.

“The smile on his face was priceless. I mean he was just so surprised, that’s what we wanted to do was surprise him and put a smile on his face for a little while,” he said.

Chris said he and his dad have picked up alpacas from all over the U.S.

He still raises alpacas in Colorado Springs.
