Local Landscapers Help Habitat

Habitat for Humanity is getting into the spirit of Earth Day at a home in northeast Colorado Springs.

Five landscaping companies got together to help plant flowers and lay sod at two Habitat homes on Crestone Peak Trail.

The homes were built during the winter.

Wednesday, landscaping companies donated everything from the materials to the labor for the project.

Habitat for Humanity relies on volunteers for the homes that it builds.

“When we get volunteers who donate their services as well as their product it really keeps the cost of the house down,” said Andy Petersen, the development director for Pike’s Peak Habitat for Humanity.

Jon Rick, the president of JRick Lawn and Tree said, “it’s definitely something that feels good. Everyone’s in good spirits.”

Habitat for Humanity has built more than 30 homes in northeast Colorado Springs and more than 100 in El Paso County.
