Collins and Bruce still avoid questions regarding ethics complaints, warrants

An arrest warrant is still out for former state lawmaker Douglas Bruce.

The woman also named in an ethics complaint along with Bruce dodged questions during a political event in Colorado Springs.

Councilwoman Helen Collins left the Airplane Restaurant when a KRDO NewsChannel 13 crew arrived for the meeting.

When our reporter followed her, one of the members from the El Paso County Conservative Men’s Club approached them. “She’s not back there,” Dave Nelson asked, as he walked out with the councilwoman. “Well, we don’t want any connection between Gordon Klingenschmitt and Helen Collins. That’s why,” he eventually said, adding that Collins regularly attends their meetings.

The questions surround properties Collins owns in Kansas City. Those properties have been condemned and the tenants were left homeless.

Eventually, Collins did speak as she was leaving.

“I come to this group a lot but I’m not sticking around,” she told KRDO NewsChannel 13’s Greg Miller. When asked if she had any comments regarding her appearance in a video linked to Douglas Bruce’s arrest warrant or those Kansas City properties, she declined to comment and drove off.

As to the man who is also named in the same ethics complaints, Douglas Bruce now faces two arrest warrants. One warrant is for assault and the other is for housing violations in Ohio.
