Springs police sergeant arrested on felony charge

A Colorado Springs police sergeant is facing a felony charge.

Sgt. Brad Pratt, 45, was arrested Monday morning on a charge of first-degree criminal trespass, a class 5 felony, according to a press release from the Colorado Springs Police Department.

On Monday, a woman filed a complaint against Pratt, requesting a civil protection order. She filed as a victim of domestic violence and stalking.

In the complaint, she wrote that she and Pratt had been dating, but that she broke up with him Sunday and asked him never to contact her again. She said when she arrived home from work Monday morning, he was in her house without her permission. She said she asked him to leave several times. She said she called 911 and as a result, Pratt was arrested.

“Bradley is a CSPD police officer,” she wrote in the complaint. “He is always armed and I fear for my life.”

The woman was not hurt. Pratt was arrested and held at the Criminal Justice Center held without bond. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation.

“The arrest of an officer is always a troubling time for the department and the community, but I am committed to cooperating fully with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in this investigation,” Chief Pete Carey said in the release. “This includes being as transparent as possible with the community without jeopardizing the investigative process.”

Pratt was hired by the police department in February 2003. He was promoted to sergeant in 2013. According to a press release from the date of his promotion, he has served in the Sand Creek Division, and Investigations Division-Violent Crimes Section- Homicide Unit. And he has earned multiple recognitions including one Medal of Valor.
