Helping homeless vets find housing

They serve our nation in peace and war, but they may not have a home to come back to.

However, a new grant aims to end the problem of homelessness for veterans.

The federal grant will give Colorado Springs nearly $200,000 to house up to 100 homeless vets.

The regional director for the Department of Housing and Urban Development was in Colorado Springs to announce the grant.

He says so far that the program to reduce homelessness among veterans is working.

“We’ve been able to reduce by 33 percent the number of veterans experiencing homelessness between 2010 and 2014,” said Rick Garcia.

Veterans who qualify for the new grant will receive vouchers that they can use to move into a place to live.
