Spring storm leaves slushy roads in Monument

Slush and wet snow are causing problems for drivers in Northern El Paso County.

Icy and snow-packed roads resulted in several crashes on Friday morning.

“The roads are wet, and they’re really slushy,” Monument resident Dick Mansfield said. “Sometimes you just need to slow it down and be cautious.”

Drivers in Monument said they are used to snow storms this time of year.

“We’re higher in elevation than Denver,” Monument resident Mike Curl said. “We’re right at that pitch. We get a little bit more up here, but dry, powder snow is a lot different than the wet snow.”

When the roads are slick, drivers said it’s best to take it slow.

“No sense in speeding and being in a hurry because you risk your life and you risk other people’s lives,” Curl said.
