Pueblo code enforcement removes nearly 300 tons of trash

Nearly 300 tons of trash were picked up by city code enforcement last year.

Code enforcement manager Karen Willson said in the first three months of this year, more than 150 tons have already been thrown out.

“Probably the most common violations are trash, weeds, conditions outside the home,” Willson said.

She added that the city starts to receive more complaints during the warmer months. When a complaint is reported to the city, the owner or occupant of the property has 10 days to address the problem. Willson said if the issue is not taken care of, the city will issue a summons and can put a lien on the property.

“Watch your weeds. If weeds start growing above 10 inches, you need to get them mowed or cut down and removed. If you pile them up or anything, that’s still a violation. And don’t let litter and trash accumulate on your property.”

To report a code violation, call the city at 553-2592.
