UPDATE: Victim identified in deadly townhome fire

The Violent Crimes Unit with Colorado Springs Police Department is investigating a death after a townhome catches fire.

The fire happened just before 3 p.m. Saturday in the 3800 block of Constitution Ave. at the Georgetown Square Complex.

Three residents were taken to area hospitals with injuries. One person died, while two others are in stable condition.

The victim has been identified as 40 year old Jasen Martinez. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy but said additional tests are needed to determine the official cause and manner of death.

Only one unit caught fire. A witness said she saw someone being taken out during the fire.

“He was a pretty big man, he looked like he was in bad shape,” Karen Washington said.

Violent Crimes is investigating, but police say there is no threat to the community.
