A study shows there are areas of blight in a Pueblo neighborhood

The City of Pueblo confirms there are areas of blight in the city’s Lower Westside.

The Pueblo Urban Renewal Authority asked for the city’s help to do the study.

The initial findings show that blighting conditions do exist in the area including inadequate infrastructure, flood hazards, deteriorating structures and buildings, conditions endangering life, environmental contamination and defective street layout.

Resident Lorraine Sisneros said the area needs some sprucing up.

“There are people who have lived here for a very long time, so even the slightest cleanups are going to make a difference,” she said.

There will be a presentation to the Pueblo City Council regarding the study at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall during the council’s work session.
