Cab drivers afraid for their safety

the shocking picture of a crook with a knife at the throat of a cab drvier.. other cabbies say it’s a sign that colorado springs is getting too dangerous. police released surveillance pictures today of the attack that happened last week. the driver in that incident is okay … but other drivers say they’re not surprised it happened. krdo newschannel 13’s greg miller is live in a cab near downtown tonight.. looking into violence on the job. james and heather the driver we rode with tonight says something’s happened in the last few months, and his job is becoming more dangerous. he’s worried whether or not he can keep doing his job. corey hornbuckle has driven cabs for four years. he wasn’t surprised to hear a fellow driver had been attacked. Sot: White male, wearing black and white flannel for three years, the job was easy… now, not so much. Every trip i take, or look at now, i feel like a police officer now. I’m cautious. I’m like, ‘are these gonna hurt me, is everything gonna be okay?’ last thursday, police say a man pulled a knife on the driver… placing it to the driver’s throat and demanded money from the victim. he never got the money and eventually ran off ..leaving the driver in the car. The guy is nice as could be, he would give the shirt off his back to anybody. He’s just out there trying to make a living like anybody else. hornbuckle installed additional cameras, both recording what goes on inside, and outside his cab. Sot: i can do my own dash cam, i can do my own wireless…so i gave it a shot. but that shot may not be worth his safety. Sot: I’m not sure what’s caused the problem, or what’s gotten worse. Day shifts are a little safer than nighttime. But, you have the same dangers during the day. as for partitions that would protect cab drivers, hornbuckles says the public utilities commission won’t allow it. he says it would go a long way to driver protection. reporting live in colorado springs, greg millerkrdo newschannel 13. a suspect
