Firefighters still watching conditions

contained a grass fire that quickly spread yesterday. pastor manny dunlap sent in this video of the western hills fire taken from a drone. it burned about one- hundred acres, but is 100- percent contained. crews were still out today watching hot spots. but fire warnings are constantly on the minds of firefighters across southern colorado. krdo newschannel 13’s greg miller got an inside look at the preparations they take to keep you safe. even when those firefighters aren’t responding to a call, they’re mapping areas and figuring out easy access routes to rural areas. and they admit, they’re worried about the upcoming season. Never such a thing as a slow day anymore. ready to go at a moment’s notice. We were out driving fields to the east. Almost to Falcoln. Planning for access. captain glenn conklin knows fire precaution all too well. he was one of the first firefighters to respond when the black forest fire sparked How incredibly fast a relatively small fire exploded right in front of us into a raging inferno. since then new trucks with gps technology were brought onboard to speed up response times. their trucks can hold hundreds of gallons of water…and brush trucks designed sepcifically to contain grassfires It allows us to always be prepared to respond quickly, so we can always get that right apparatus there. which on red flag days … proves critical. Lives are depending on how quickly we can get there. these fire stations meet every morning… looking at wind speeds, humidity and other factors which could lead to a potential fire. and this will be their course of action, in what they fear could be a bad spring and summer. It gets people a little nervous The fuels are dry, it’s windy… red flag warnings are issued by the national weather service, which analyzes the weather conditions for a fire to spread. actual burn bans are determined by the city and county fire marshalls… which analyze the actual ground conditions… before deciding to put a ban in place. there is no such burn ban in place, at least not now. live in cs, gm, nc 13. as flood season gets
