Memorial scheduled for cadet who died in dorm room
A memorial has been scheduled for an Air Force Academy cadet who died in his dorm room last week.
The memorial service will happen on Wednesday at 1:45 p.m. at the cadet chapel. Flags will fly at half staff on the Academy that day.
Cadet 1st Class Alexandre Quiros, 21, was found injured in his dorm room on Thursday, April 2, 2015. He was pronounced dead at 3:43 p.m.
The cause of his injuries are not known. An investigation is underway.
Cadet Quiros was a senior majoring in Astronautical Engineering. He made the Dean’s List (grade point average of 3.0 or higher) and Commandant’s List (cadets with military performance averages of 3.0 or higher) multiple times.
Quiros graduated from Cheyenne Mountain High School in 2011. We spoke to his former tennis coach and English teacher Dave Adams.
“Really smart kid. sharp young man. A great fit for the air force academy I think. He wanted to improve himself,” Adams said. “It was clear he wanted to get better at tennis, and worked hard to try to improve himself in that way. And academically he always did his work. You could count on him to keep up with everything”
“Our deepest sympathies and sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of Cadet Quiros. Yesterday , we lost a member of our Air Force Academy family, and it’s a loss felt across our entire institution,” said Lt. Gen. Michelle Johnson, Air Force Academy Superintendent. “Right now, our focus is on providing all possible support to the friends and loved ones of our fallen Airman.”
