Fowler River Fire flare up 80% contained

High winds caused the Fowler River Fire to flare up Thursday night, just hours after it was declared 100% contained.

The Fowler fire chief said the flare up is about 80 percent contained as of Friday afternoon. It burned about another acre or two, he said.

Highway 50 was closed because of blowing smoke and dust Thursday evening. It reopened Thursday night.

The original fire burned approximately 130 acres. It started Wednesday. Firefighters believe it started when a leftover ember from a prescribed burn on Tuesday was stoked by windy weather on Wednesday.
