Fiber damaged by contractor impacts CenturyLink & The City of Pueblo

An accident by a contractor knocked out phone and internet service for hundreds of CenturyLink customers, and slowed phone traffic in and out of City of Pueblo departments Friday.

The city says a contractor accidentally drilled a hole into some fibers that service both CenturyLink and the city’s fiber infrastructure network.

The incident happened in the area of 23rd Lane and Santa Fe Ave. at around 7:30 a.m.

The accident means that the number of calls both coming in and going out of the city will be affected and some residents may have trouble reaching various city departments.

The city says that the 911 emergency system is not affected.

Work is underway to resolve the problem, but systems may not be back in complete working order for several days.
