Fowler River Fire 100% contained

The Fowler River Fire is 100% contained.

Firefighters announced the news live on KRDO NewsChannel 13 at 4.

The fire started just west of Fowler Wednesday night and has burned around 130 acres near the Pueblo-Otero County line.

The Fowler fire chief said he thinks an ember from a controlled burn Tuesday got picked up by the wind Wednesday and started the fire.

Three structures were threatened, firefighters said. They were able to keep the fire away from one family’s home. But an abandoned home is still threatened.

Highway 50 reopened in both directions around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The La Junta fire chief said the fire has stopped spreading and mop up will continue Thursday.

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for the area for Thursday afternoon, which means dangerously high fire danger conditions are expected once again.
