Police: Denver Uber driver tried to break into home

A Colorado Uber driver is accused of trying to break into the home of a woman he drove to the airport.

Police say 51-year-old Gerald Montgomery was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of attempted second-degree burglary.

According to police, he dropped off the passenger at the airport Thursday, returned to her home and then tried to break in through the back door. Investigators say he fled when someone spotted him.

Montgomery served as a driver for the San Francisco-based taxi alternative company’s UberX service but was deactivated after his arrest.

Uber told The Denver Post that Montgomery passed full criminal- and driving-background checks.

Uber says it contacted the passenger to tell her that he has been deactivated and refund her fare.

It’s not clear if Montgomery has a lawyer yet.
