Climber rescued after fall at Rocky Mountain National Park

A rock climber from Boulder is recovering after falling about 80 feet at Rocky Mountain National Park.

Park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson says 28-year-old Janet Heung fell while attached to climbing ropes on or near the Deep Freeze climbing route around 11 a.m. Tuesday. She ended up in steep scree just above The Loch on Thatchtop Mountain. An air ambulance was able to land on the frozen lake and take her to St. Anthony’s Hospital about eight hours after the fall.

Patterson said the rescue would have taken even longer if not for the weather and location of the fall.
