‘Fetal Homicide Bill’ to be Introduced at State Capitol

DENVER – In the wake of the attack on a pregnant woman in Longmont, some lawmakers are poised to take action.

This week, Senate president Bill Cadman, (R) Colorado Springs, plans to introduce a fetal homicide bill.

The bill would make it a crime to kill or hurt an unborn child. Cadman says this is not similar to the failed “personhood amendment” because the new bill would still protect a woman’s right to choose.

For example, in the Longmont case, Dynel Lane could be charged with homicide if she’s found guilty of killing the fetus.

But some argue the bill may be too similar to ‘personhood.’ And Representative Mike Foote, (D) Lafayette, says protections for unborn children already exist in his 2013 Unlawful Termination of a Pregnancy bill which passed two years ago.
