Off-Duty Police Officer Helps Rescue Victim from House Fire

An off-duty Springs Police Officer is being credited for helping a man escape a house fire today (03/29/15).

The flames broke out at the home on the 5100 Block of Palmer Park Blvd. around 1:00 pm.

CSFD says the fire was being fueled by a natural gas leak in the back of the house.

Crews had to stop the leak, as they worked to put the fire out.

Two people were home at the time, including an older resident.

The off-duty officer, Jimmy Paladino, who was near the scene, saw the flames and helped the man get to safety.

There were no injuries.

Crews were able to get the fire under control, however there was extensive damage to the home, and the family will be displaced.

The Red Cross is helping the family.

Palmer Park Blvd. was shut down for a brief time, but has re-opened.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
