Springs councilwoman’s profile helps neighbors find her

A Colorado Springs councilwoman facing an ethics investigation and a recall vote owns property in Missouri that residents there want cleaned up.

The Gazette reported Tuesday that Helen Collins owns two apartment buildings in Kansas City. The president of a neighborhood council claims the property isn’t maintained and has been trying to contact Collins.

Collins told The Gazette she wasn’t aware of any complaints in Kansas City.

In Colorado Springs, Collins faces an ethics complaint alleging she participated in a real estate deal with TABOR author Douglas Bruce that helped him avoid paying a court judgment. Collins says the complaint has no merit.

She also faces an April 7 recall election spurred by residents who claim she’s too aligned with Bruce, who was convicted in 2011 on tax evasion and other charges.
