12-year-old girl accused of trying to poison mother

A 12-year-old girl is in jail after Boulder deputies say she tried to poison her mother.

Boulder County sheriff’s deputies say the attempted poisoning happened after the girl’s mother tried to take her phone away.

According to investigators the mother had noticed the smell of bleach in a smoothie last week, but assumed that the smell was left over from cleaning.

The mother said she noticed the smell again a few days later in her water carafe and confronted her daughter.

The girl was taken into custody and is now facing first-degree attempted murder charges.
