Democrats reintroduce ‘Frack Pack’ oil and gas regulations
Four Democratic members of Congress are reintroducing bills to impose more stringent federal environmental regulations on the oil and gas industry.
Colorado Rep. Diana DeGette’s FRAC Act would require public disclosure of chemicals used during hydraulic fracturing. A bill by Colorado Rep. Jared Polis would end exemptions to air pollution rules for the petroleum industry.
Rep. Jan Schakowsky of Illinois wants to require pollution testing of water sources before and during petroleum development. Rep. Matt Cartwright of Pennsylvania proposes that oil and gas producers obtain permits for development that increases stormwater runoff.
The lawmakers call their group of bills the “Frack Pack.”
The Western Energy Alliance says states with oil and gas development have their own stringent rules and new federal rules are redundant and unnecessary.
