UPDATE: Man facing attempted homicide charges following Colorado Springs standoff

A suspect who police say hit a Colorado Springs motorcycle officer during a traffic stop Friday faces attempted murder charges.

Police arrested Robert Denhartog after a lengthy standoff inside a condominium complex.

Police say it began when a jeep intentionally hit a motorcycle officer during a traffic stop near Centennial Boulevard and Chuckwagon Road Friday afternoon. The officer fired one shot at the Jeep. The driver was not hit.

The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The driver got away and barricaded himself inside the Saddleback Ridge Condominiums, near the intersection of Chuckwagon and Montura View.

The arrest happened just before 7 p.m. Friday.

“At first, I thought it was just a crash or accident, then I saw dudes in swat suits. I figured we couldn’t get in there,” said Anthony Couch, a resident at the complex. “I figured by living in this neighborhood it will be a little safer, but stuff happens anywhere.”

Police have not released a motive in the crash or standoff.
