Firefighters contain basement fire in Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs firefighters responded to an early-morning basement fire Saturday.

It happened on the 5600 block of Buckskin Pass Drive North.

Firefighters were dispatched to the home around 7:15 a.m.

“There were two people inside the home at the time,” Lt. David Barron said. “They smelled smoke and they weren’t sure where it was coming from. They initially thought it was plastic in the dishwasher, then they discovered it was coming from downstairs.”

Everyone was able to get out of the home safely.

Firefighters said this is a good reminder to always have an emergency exit plan.

“You want to have a plan in place so you can get out of your house and a plan for your pets, if you have pets, so you can get them out of the house,” Barron said.

Firefighters contained the fire in less than an hour.

Investigators are trying to determine how the fire started.
