Hundreds wait for gas to be turned back on
Natural gas services have been turned back on for some residents Wednesday morning.
Colorado Springs Utility crews are working as swiftly and safely as possible after a large gas-line break.
A large 6-inch line was hit by a contractor in a construction zone on Tuesday, near Powers Boulevard and Old Ranch Road.
The break took natural gas services from fourteen-hundred people.
Fifteen utility crews are now restoring services at every home affected, each stop will take a half-hour.
Crews stress that customers should not try to ignite their pilot light, or handle their gas meter themselves.
CDOT is looking at the pipeline maps and investigating the contractor to determine how the pipe was struck.
Crews have started restoring gas services west of Chapel Hills Drive, and south of Old Ranch Road. they will continue moving east.
If no one 18 years or older is home when crews arrive, they will leave a notice on your door with a number to call.
Utility crews hope to have nearly half of the affected customers back up and running by Wednesday night.
